Battlestar Galactica Season 4.5 Spoiler

Posted by melancholygeek on June 15, 2008

BSG(SPOILER ALERT, duh!) So, yesterday I posted the Season 4.5 Preview Clip (which tripled the hits to my blog so far, so a big, warm, fuzzy welcome to all you new visitors, enjoy your stay) and I said it would be spoiler-free. Well, if you haven’t read anything about previously circulating rumors that might be true. If you have on the other hand, this teaser gives quite some credibility to especially one issue (also stated here on LJ’s Battlestar Blog and in the Starbuck section here at io9). Highlight to read (incl. caps from the teaser):

It’s been stated from very early on this season that a scene had been filmed where Kara finds her crashed original Viper along with her dead body. She burns the body (doesn’t really make sense to try and burn a huge chunk of metal that is a Viper) and places fake dogtags on it. Now let’s take a look at some screencaps from the teaser (click for the pictures):

Screencap 1

Kara touching her crashed Viper

Screencap 2

Kara placing the fake dogtags

Screencap 3

Kara burning her own body

No discussion of implications from my side as usual. You go ahead and dissect this someplace else 😉

Continuation of my Revelations Impressions later today.

Well i think they did this preview with the fact that some of us knew or heard about her burning her body… they arent giving away whats being burned. Also remember how Roslin was burning something in that Last Sup picture? but they removed whatever she was burning for some reason. Anyways we see someone tearing out pages of the book of Pythia and burning it. I wonder why? Also we hear about this mysterious piano player that Karra meets soon and becomes attached to telling him things about her no ones known. Which personally i think is just so they can reveal something new about Starbuck, something in her past that they never intended her on having but they needed to so they did it like this.

Well, I guess the idea of having RDM toy with the spoiled fanbase has a certain appeal, true. Especially since I don’t really remember if (but think that) the spoilers hit the web before they decided to re-write many of the final episodes after the writer’s strike.

As to the mystery that is Starbuck in general, I too see quite a lot of twists and turns on the horizon and I guess it’s safe to assume that a lot of them weren’t planned when they started shooting this season.

As for the Book of Pythia, all I see is someone reading it (no page-tearing, although I had that impression the first time I saw the teaser as well), and it does look like it’s an older Caucasian female character judging from the hands (Roslin). Definitely not Starbuck. And my guess would be she’s either reading it next to a fire or it’s just part of the blending over to Kara’s fire. We don’t see the book actually catch fire, do we?

All in all, and I’m doing something here I rarely do, just to throw it out there: My guess is Starbuck is the dying leader (who ‘died’ before reaching Earth the first time) in a more metaphorical sense of ‘dying’.

I’m putting way too much thought in this 😉

Interesting trailer, still must admit it’s probably Bill Adama as the 5th. Believe that the viper that Kara flew back in may be the 5th cylon. Cylon’s built raiders didn’t they. Helio as well. Isn’t Caprica (6th) pregnant fro Saul, so if the final 5 can have children it could be Helio. Just some thoughts.

  4. I really have to say, TPTB did quite a good job in obfuscating the identity of the Fifth and frankly, I don’t have the slightest clue. I’ve never given the idea of Helo being it much thought, but it’s an interesting point indeed…

I always thought it might be Helio he proved it when he sabotaged their attempt to give the
    Cylons a Human virus.

  6. I guess Helo does make sense in a lot of ways, but on the other hand, so does nearly every other character. We’ll know more in three months…

If Saul Tigh and Caprica Six are having a baby, then couldn’t their baby be the final cylon? How could that be since the Fifth was full-grown?

If Thrace did go through some kind of wormhole or something that caused her to travel through time (i.e. the “time discrepancy” of months), then she could have been at Earth at any point in history. To me this could mean that they (the writers) would play up some way that she is actually responsible for the apocalypse that happened on earth. And that’s why she is the Harbinger of Death and maybe that’s why she concealed the truth about her rapter. As far as her being a cylon I just don’t know. – Just some thoughts about the show. You know that there is no way that we can predict what will happen, that’s why BSG is frakin’ awesome!

Question: Does anybody think that there is a connection between Gaius Baltar and Caprica Six having “imaginary” “projections” of each other and when Starbuck had the vision(s) of Leoban in the epidode where her rapter exploded? Starbuck, in her delusion or whatever it was, said to her imaginary leoban after “accepting” her mother’s death, “You’re not Leoban.” and he replied “I never said I was.” Wierd.

This all has to come back to Starbuck being lost for months. Something about her going back and seeing earth. Well if she has been there why can’t she remember it. Better yet what is it she exact;y remembers about it. Thought. The Starbuck that came back is not StarBuck but an Earth Cylon1 Hmmm maybe thats a Stretch but Earth looks like it was destroyed by Cylons or something alien at least. Do you Remember the satilite thet they found that was killing the Cylons that they never really figured out how or why or where it came from. hmmmm some old clues are out there.

There are some reflections you must keep in mind from the previous original series. Could Count Iblis be the cuplit for the head characters?
