More on Marvel Movies

Posted by melancholygeek on October 25, 2008

A whole lotta time since I last posted an update on upcoming Marvel movies, and quite some things have happened on that front, so here we go:

So, we all now by now there’s an Avengers movie scheduled for 2011, and the probable line-up will be Cap, Iron Man, Thor, Ant-man, Wasp and Hulk. But on whose side will the latter be on? Obviously, Ed Norton has no clue, but rumors amount more and more, that the Hulk might be the (ultimate) villain of this play. And I could see that, so no complaints from this side. And I’m really looking forward for the animated series accompanying the movie release. Another question that arose, due to a visit at Marvel, is: Will Janet van Dyne (Wasp) be portrayed by desperate housewife Eva Longoria? Believe me, I’m no fan of hers, but she sure has the looks down. I could see that happening.

Iron Man! First and foremost, Favreau spilled quite a lot on what he wants to have in Iron Man 2 and 3, so that’s definitely worth a read. What we definitely won’t have in Iron Man 2 is Terrence Howard reprising his role as Jim Rhodes (and eventually War Machine). That doesn’t mean the character won’t appear (you couldn’t do that), but he’s been recast. And no other than Don Cheadle will take up the part. For me this is the opposite of the Longoria situation: I actually am a big fan of Cheadle’s, ever since Picket Fences and all the way through to Hotel Rwanda or Crash, but I really liked Howard as Rhodes and personally see him way more as War Machine than I can Cheadle. Well, we’ll see. In other news, we’ll probably get more Iron Man tie-ins in other Marvel movies. And check out these detailed pictures of The Suit!

No real casting news about the upcoming Thor movie, but one hell of a news piece concerning the director: Kenneth Branagh! So here I’m totally not sure what to think about it. I adore Branagh’s directing work in his takes on Shakespeare (if you don’t trust me, make sure you get to see his Much Ado About Nothing – purely awesome), but I also do remember Frankenstein, which I found to be in the best case mediocre. On the other hand, quite some major comic book movies have been done by people I wouldn’t have expected to pull it off, and they worked. I’m a little curious.

No casting or directing news on The First Avenger: Captain America that I’d be aware of, but a plot synopsis! Oh, and here’s your Cap cameo in The Incredible Hulk.

And one little tidbit non-Avengery: Will Kirsten Dunst be in Spider-Man 4 and 5? Or will there be a different leading lady? Frankly, right now, I could care less.

[Kara/Leoben Shipper Week] The Grand Finale

Posted by melancholygeek on October 19, 2008

BSGA week is over and I hope you had fun. And what else to end this shipper week with if not the extended White Paint scene from Maelstrom? Have fun! (courtesy of aguid23) (Supposedly this clip is not suitable for minors. Just saying.)

[Kara/Leoben Shipper Week] Battlestar Galactica 1×08 ‘Flesh And Bone’ Impressions

Posted by melancholygeek on October 18, 2008

BSGWhat better way to celebrate Kara/Leoben Shipper Week than with a little recap of the first K/L episode, Flesh And Bone. (I might abbreviate Kara/Leoben like this occasionally and you should know by now that it doesn’t stand for Kara/Leland, right?)

One word of warning: These impressions are rather picture-heavy, hence the cut below.

We’re well into the first season, there’s way too many Boomers around, The Cylons do look like us now, and we are even allowed to know it and the original Apollo goes now by the name of Zarek and is a terrorist. No Cylon though (as far as we know).

Glowy-pretty Roslin in nightgown walking through a forest. My guess: dreaming. Of soldiers. Hmm. And wildly gesturing, creepy Leoben:

[Kara/Leoben Shipper Week] FANFIC!

Posted by melancholygeek on October 17, 2008

BSGSeeing that I still don’t feel all too capable of coming up with original material, it might be a good idea to advertise some stuff other people wrote:

Thanks to my recent detour to livejournal-land, I was pointed to quite some nice places (on LJ of course) to find Kara/Leoben fanfic, and I guess this shipper-week is quite an alright opportunity to share. Be warned, some of these are a bit spoilery shouldn’t you have watched BSG up to the last aired episode:

First and foremost I’d like to recommend the lovely story Bravado by mdbsgfan, which in many ways captures what I think is the essence of the Kara/Leoben relationship.

If you’re more up for something to laugh about, and that very heartily, make sure you check out alissabobissa‘s hilarious A Two Is A Two.

If you feel more like browsing collections of fanfic, make sure you pass by the communities Trial By Water and The Community for Kara Thrace / Leoben Conoy lovers, karaben.

And speaking of collections, green_grrl compiled a nice list of Six Degrees of Due South fic. While you probably don’t know what the Six Degrees stand for (which calls for a Canada week sometime soon I guess), just rest assured there’s a Battlestar Galactica section there, dealing mostly with Kara/Leoben. And a lot of other great stories, too!

[Kara/Leoben Shipper Week] Loaded Gun

Posted by melancholygeek on October 16, 2008

BSGWouldn’t you know, yet another fanvid! I’m not feeling all too well lately, so that makes it a bit hard to focus on writing up original stuff. Plus the wordpress image uploading thingy is acting up on me. But the lovely Tyrella once again saves the day by pointing me to this quite intriguing vid by latteaddict, Loaded Gun:

[Kara/Leoben Shipper Week] Haunted Dreams

Posted by melancholygeek on October 15, 2008

BSGOK, I really didn’t want this to be a “fanvids all week” thing, but I’m really locked up with other stuff and that’s just my easy way out. Bear with me, I do have other stuff in stock. But until then, enjoy aguid23‘s fanvid to Wish FM’s Haunted Dreams (this one’s for Tyrella):

BSGAs you can imagine, it’s a little difficult to do a Kara/Leoben fanvid to Shiny Happy People. So this isn’t:

In which I get to be part of something awesome [Kara/Leoben Shipper Week]

Posted by melancholygeek on October 12, 2008

BSGAs some of you might have picked up lately, I kinda like Battlestar Galactica. And to those of you who pay really close attention it is no secret that I have a certain affection towards the Leoben Conoy character and the actor portraying him, Callum Keith Rennie. So there’s that.

As a Callum Keith Rennie fan I’m of course an avid reader of The CKR Files, an online archive of all things Rennie (you might have stumbled upon it via links from IMDb or wikipedia). There all kinds of interviews, articles and reviews of movies and TV shows concerning The Body Hammer are compiled. You should definitely check it out if you are at all interested in the work of CKR or Canadian movies and TV in general (which you should be).

Now what’s the big deal you ask? Well, here it comes: The driving force behind The CKR Files, the wonderful c_regalis discovered my humble blog some time ago. And not only did I receive some serious linkage, no I was also approached if I would be interested to write the Battlestar Galactica article for The CKR Files!

So, here I am, proud and honored to present my contribution to one of my favorite sites on the interwebs:

The CKR file for Battlestar Galactica!

And, seeing that I mentioned Callum/Leoben quite often lately, I guess it’s time to take this opportunity to kick off another shipper week, and of course this time it’s Kara/Leoben!
