Trinity In Space Impressions – Intermission

Posted by melancholygeek on November 30, 2008

Really guys, it’s not that I don’t want to continue these impressions, actually I am sort of working on them, but adding to the time issues I might have mentioned before, one nasty cold that’s rampant around here finally seems to have gotten to me. I still hope I’ll be able to post something more today, but chances are I’ll curl up un my couch with a tea and a blanket and watch some BSG. Or Buffy. We’ll see.

Until then, seeing that the general topic here is a convention in Germany, enjoy this little gem I just rediscovered, featuring The Hoff:

I remember fondly the time when I first saw this piece of… um, art? And by the way, that icy, stingy feeling you get in your gut while watching it that makes you want to look away? Fremdschämen is something like that.

And to quote Wil Wheaton: ” If you can’t do random silly shit like this with your blog, why have a blog in the first place?

Trinity In Space Impressions Day 2.5 (Electric Bogaloo)

Posted by melancholygeek on November 29, 2008

BSGAlright, after this little digression concerning female tushies and the shower hose of horror, back to the actual con report.

Saturday’s program was packed with panels, photo- and autograph sessions, a workshop by Tony Amendola, a quiz and of course the con party, so basically what you would expect on the main day. But what was actually to expect? You might remember, I was a con virgin so far and I wasn’t alone with that in our little group, The Significant Six. How upfront will the guests be, how awkward will it get in the workshops? What is it exactly that a hundred and some nerds call a party? Should I have watched at least something of Stargate? Will I get completely lost with Matthew Bennett as the only straw in the stream to cling to (what a disturbing thought)?

Trust me, the answers to some of these questions surprised me a lot, so get ready for one hell of a ride when the adventures of The Significant Six continue with The Day That Wouldn’t End, right after the break.

[Edit: I might just as well call this the post that wouldn’t end, for it takes me way longer to write than I anticipated. Plus I have a bunch of other stuff to do. So this post will just cover what turned out to be half of the day, more hopefully tomorrow]

Trinity In Space Impressions Day 2.0 (This time it’s personal)

Posted by melancholygeek on November 28, 2008

BSGAaand, we’re back! And before we continue the coverage of a geek’s journey to the forbidden land, here’s a quick shout-out to someone who’s grown very dear to me over the course of events that were the Trinity In Space convention. The marvelous Tyrella, whom I mentioned in the first part of these Impressions, although not by name, obviously couldn’t keep to herself concerning the last weekend either and runs her own Trinity In Space report over at her LJ. As you might have guessed she has also been part of our little connie group (I might refer to in the following as The Significant Six) and does a wonderful job in giving her impressions of the con. So, before reading any further, head over there and get a second opinion from one of the most fascinating and adorable people I was to meet in a long, long time!

Back on topic: Yours truly joined a rag-tag band of non-smelly nerds on their quest for survival in the most hostile of surroundings – The Con! Having encountered their first obstacle, the dreaded Meet & Greet Of Doom – and prevailed! – The Significant Six are now to face their next challenge: The day that wouldn’t end!

This here now is merely the prelude to said epic battle, because there are some things I have to get out of my system beforehand. So bear with me, tomorrow you’ll get the full monty, but today, I just need to do what I rarely do and jot down some personal and not so con related things. Feel free to skip this if you just want to know more about the guests (tomorrow, promise), but if you want to learn a bit about yours truly, please stay.

Expect scantily clad female bottoms, showers that fight back and the weirdest breakfast habits you’ll ever read about. Right here, after the cut.

More Battlestar Galactica Season 4.5 Teaser (and other tidbits)

Posted by melancholygeek on November 28, 2008

BSGJeebus, the web’s a-buzzin with BSG news, promos and spoilers lately, it’s hard to keep up!

First: As aired during the James Bond marathon yesterday on SciFi, one nice new teaser clip (courtesy of smcki10):

Along with it, there have been five 5-second mini-teasers (audio only), here a back-to-back cut thanks to bluecrushfan over at battlestar blog:

There’s also a website dedicated to clues about the Fifth Cylon at http://youwillknowthetruth.com. Those clues surely look fascinating. And don’t get me started on whatever clue involves a certain someone… OK, here’s the spoiler: :: Leland is acting president still/again ::

In other news: SyFyPortal has a list of five people, one of which is the final Cylon. This list gets some credibility due to the fact that Michael Ausiello linked to it. I agree with io9 when they say, a grain of salt to take with this might be in order.

Finally: Michael Trucco (Anders) joins the cast of The Big Bang Theory, at least for one episode! As with Tricia Helfer on Chuck, this makes me all twitchy, seeing that I love BBT probably more than anything that’s airing right now! [via battlestar blog]

More Trinity in Space Impressions later today or tomorrow. Promise.

Trinity In Space Impressions Day 1

Posted by melancholygeek on November 27, 2008

BSGAs mentioned earlier, I spent the weekend out of town, namely in the lovely Bad Salzdetfurth, Germany, and frankly, that’s about as far out of town you can possibly get. Seriously, when ever you feel like getting away from it all and you happen to be in Germany, BaSa (as I’ll abbreviate it from now on) is the place for you.

Not so this last weekend though, for the local hotel housed the Trinity In Space Convention, organized by Wolfevents, a joint convention for all things Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis and, you might have guessed it, Battlestar Galactica.

Before I dive into the unspeakable abyss of awesome (much) and gruesome (little) that was this weekend, some starters to set things into perspective.

a) I had never been to a con before. I just never thought me the type to drool over celebrities, put on weird costumes and rub shoulders with sweaty, smelly nerds (yup, that’s what I imagined cons to be. Sue me.).

b) Stargate for me is a decent movie starring Kurt Russell. Of course I was aware of the way the franchise had developed, but I never consciously watched any episode of SG-1 or SGA.

c) The one and only reason for me to decide to go there was the appearance of Callum Keith Rennie, whom, as an actor, I admire beyond what is healthy. The fact that I’d meet some other people there I had contact over the internets with of course put the cream and chocolate sprinkles on top, but I booked everything mainly because of The Rennie. Of course, he canceled a couple of days before the event.

So, was it the best of times? Was it the worst of times? Find out after the cut.

BSG Linkroll Pt. XI (Once more, with spoilers)

Posted by melancholygeek on November 23, 2008

BSGWebisodes! Spoiler! Buttseks! Tricia Helfer! (the latter two are not connected)

It seems like I have to get out of town without internet access more often, for interesting things tend to happen just then. But first a little personal thanks:

The C6D_weekly over at livejournal linked here and got me a bunch of (new?) visitors! Thank you kindly.

In other news: Some of you might have picked up I’m not exclusively watching Battlestar Galactica but occasionally cheat on our beloved with other series. One of these mistresses is the spy-comedy Chuck. Personally I’m a total sucker for the Does the geek (or nerd for that matter) get the girl? co-premise of the show. And guess who’s gonna be this girl in the second part of the running Season? Tricia Helfer! Good move Tricia, good move indeed! [via io9]

Wolfevents’ joint Stargate/BSG convention Trinity in Space just ended and instead of Callum Keith Rennie the BSG guest turned out to be Matthew Bennett (Fashion victim Cylon #5, the not so beloved(?) Aaron Doral). Why am I mentioning this, while I keep quiet about cons in general? Because I was there. Expect more coverage of the event over the next days.

The Season 4.5 teaser trailer finally hit the net! And it even brought along a little baby brother! Just the links here, embedded posts to follow (I’m a google-ranking whore, I know). I just watched them once as of yet, but I can say, they’re awesome! For me as an Adama/Roslin shipper as well as for all you poor lost souls that still think Kara doesn’t deserve better than Leland. Just kidding.

Webisodes: Yes, they’re coming (we knew that), but earlier than initially feared! Actually, the mini-episodes, directed by Jamie Bamber and James Callis and named The Face Of The Enemy will start going on line next month! And for those of you who consider the information that a Battlestar is actually a huge chunk of metal flying through space a spoiler, here’s another hair-raising tidbit that will be “revealed” in the webisodes (highlight to read): :: Gaeta is gay. And haz buttseks with Hoshi :: No! Seriously? What will be next? Boomer is a Cylon? [via aintitcool, Galactica Sitrep]

More spoilers! Should you’ve been asleep the past months and are too lazy to browse through this epiphany of a weblog for all the spoilers for the rest of the season, io9 has posted a nice little roundup of all there is to know so far.

BSG Con Update: No Callum This Weekend, The Geek Is Shattered

Posted by melancholygeek on November 17, 2008

BSGSince I mentioned Callum Keith Rennie’s supposed appearance at this week’s Trinity In Space convention in Bad Salzdetfurth before, here’s an update to the story: No, he won’t.

As announced on wolfevents’ german website (and here on battlestar blog), Callum cancelled his appearance, most probably due to his filming for the new TV pilot Shattered, in which he’ll play the role of an ex-cop with multiple personality disorder (check out scriggle‘s tight coverage of anything Shattered here, here, here and here). While him starring in a new series is of course cause for much rejoicing, it’s still bad news for anyone attending the Con basically because of Callum and especially those who’ve never watched anything Stargate and don’t have the slightest clue at all who the other guests are. As you might have already guessed: I’m one of them.

This of course also means that there probably won’t be the extensive Con coverage here that I planned for (wolfevents is trying to get a replacement but knowing my luck it’ll be Bamber or Clyne) but I’ll nevertheless might drop a line or two about the event.

And yes, I’m still looking forward to this weekend, seeing that I’ll meet a lot of great people there anyway, Callum or no Callum. *sulk*

BSG Linkroll Pt. X

Posted by melancholygeek on November 8, 2008

BSGSeems like work is even catching up on weekends nowadays, so here’s just a quick drive-by linkroll, mostly old news of course, so just see it as a reminder, alright?

As probably everyone knows by now, the return date for our beloved Battlestar Galactica is set! Season 4.5 will start on January 16, 9p.m. Central. That sets the series finale to March 20. 69 days to go…

As has been reported before, there were supposed to be webisodes to ease the pain of waiting. The good news: They are for real! And there will also be a half hour special “BSG: Essential Elements” even before that. But of course, there’s also bad news: Obviously we don’t get the ‘one webisode per week’ routine we’re used to this time. No, SciFi seems to want to air them all in one night, during the presentation of Pitch Black, on January 15! And even the half hour special will air only insignificantly earlier, meaning January 11. To quote crazyvictoria on battlestar_blog: Fail, SciFi, total fail.

Speaking of dates, there will be another Frak Party hosted by the BSGCast people honoring the launch of Season 4.5!

Some minor spoilers about Season 4.5: We’ll get to see more old-school centurions (yay!), we’ll get to know, what took the final Cylons so long to become aware of their nature (alrighty…), Boomer-Sharon will play an important role (gah!) and the Kara/Lee relationship won’t be fully resolved until the end of the series (pff…).

Tidbits! The BSG-prop auctions are finally rolling out, some people have too much time on their hands (and do awesome things with it), Vipers are just awesome (although I beg to differ on the caption of the first picture there, this is clearly an A-Wing design!) and as long as we don’t see new stuff with Tigh, Gaeta and Dee, we at least can just listen to them.

Oh, and this. 🙂

Still alive…

Posted by melancholygeek on November 8, 2008

No, not some overused Portal joke, just a quick reminder that, yes, I am. I know it’s been awfully quiet around here lately and as much as I hope to be able to change that, I’m not all too hopeful for the near future. Work is, well, just that, and not too little of it and also the weekends this month are quite booked (one of which will probably result in a longish report here, so stay tuned!).

I’d also like to take the opportunity to apologize to my fellow Leobenites at the Skiffy-Forums for not dropping by lately. I’m just swamped! Miss you!

But I do have some plans (as usual) and probably will be able to squeeze some things in this weekend, but I can’t really promise anything at this point.

In the meantime, a little something for you: As you might know, I’m a huge Weezer-fan (You might remember their marvelous Pork And Beans video I posted some time ago), and here’s the video to their latest single, Troublemaker:

Oh, and by the way: That cake thing? A total lie!
